Chop Block

Bolton Sign ®️ was approached by architectural and design practice, Design LSM, to manufacture, supply and install the signage for an American-style steak house. "Chop Block" is housed in an 18th century former brewer's building, based in Chelmsford, Essex.

They were aiming to create a traditional yet contemporary feel with the use of heavy woods, rich leathers and exposed brick. We collaborated with the client's Design Director to make his creative design a physical reality. A key element of the aesthetic success of this project was in sourcing and purchasing a rare West African dark wood called Wenge, which we found at one of only three suppliers in the UK. Each sign was hand crafted by our skilled tradesmen and metal fabricators at our onsite workshop then carefully transported and installed by our experienced fitters.

This bespoke signage project incorporated a lot of different elements from interior architectural design features, faux neon lettering, way finding signs and external illuminated signage:

  • Various mild steel built up letters with opal acrylic faces and cool white (7000k) LED face illumination. Fixed to exterior brick wall on 2 part brass locators
  • Illuminated menu case with glazed front panel, clad in mild steel with hinges to the top. Internally illuminated by LED lighting to the surround with top of frame fret cut. Fixed on post and fixed directly to planter
  • White vinyl on blackened hot rolled steel fixed direct to wall
  • Internally illuminated light boxes with dark timber finish, 100 mm deep and text reversed out of black vinyl affixed to opal acrylic face hung by steel cable
  • Light-box. Dark timber 27 mm thick frame and back with opal acrylic to the face and digitally printed vinyl overlay. Internally illuminated with white LED’s
  • Individual laser cut mild steel letters backed up with 10mm deep MDF
  • Blackboard with white vinyl artwork as detailed with 27mm thick, 50 mm deep dark timber frame
